Making Commitments to Sustainability

Being a fully sustainable events destination is hard – but we are committed to starting somewhere; and actively encouraging YOU to join us on this journey of being more environmentally responsible while at the Steel Horse.

Our initial efforts are focused on water and energy conservation, reducing waste, recycling, eco-conscious purchasing, preserving our surrounding environment, and providing habitat for local wildlife. Read more about where we are beginning in this journey and how you can help below.

Water & Energy Conservation

Buy, or Bring, Your Own Water Bottle

Instead of having single-use plastic cups or water bottles for on-site hydration, be sure you and your guests know to bring your own reusable water bottles (or purchase one of ours) for fill ups at one of our refillable, filtered water stations. We highly recommend biodegradable paper cups for larger events, like wedding receptions.

Towel Refreshes By Request Only

To decrease the amount of energy and water used for laundry, we only refresh towels by request only while you are here.

Energy Efficient Lighting

Most lighting in and around the property is energy-efficient LED bulbs or solar-powered.

Reducing Waste

Smart Purchasing

We purchase from zero-waste retailers when possible and use eco-friendly cleaning supplies to reduce single-use plastics.

Recycling

We provide clearly labeled receptacles for your convenience in supporting our commitment to recycling glass, aluminum, and plastics brought to our venue.

Reuse

Repurposed Blankets

We replace bedding often due to frequent wear and tear. Instead of throwing them away to clutter landfills, we repair and repurpose them for use in keeping warm while you’re here in and around the property. Select blankets are available for purchase as a memento of your time with us.

Reusable or Compostable Food Service Items

Where possible, we purchase and provide reusable food service items like plates, silverware, and glasses. Plastic plates, silverware, and cups are discouraged; instead, we recommend working with your caterer to provide compostable items for larger events like wedding receptions.

Repurposed Glass for Candle Souvenirs

Select bottles, jars, and glass containers are repurposed into keepsake candles for purchase. (It also makes for a great on-site group activity! Reach out if you are interested in details about the option to make your own while here.)
